Nelia “Neli” Ekeji is a Nigerian-American disaster response specialist, public health advocate, and avid cinephile whose commitment to social justice drives her work and passion for film. With a degree in International Comparative Studies and a minor in Global Health from Duke University, Neli’s advocacy journey began early, including a dedicated tenure with AmeriCorps. She later moved to New York City to pursue her master’s at NYU, further deepening her dedication to empowering underserved communities.
Neli believes in the power of media to transform narratives and champion the voices of marginalized populations. Her diverse background in humanitarian work, public health, and international studies brings a valuable, socially conscious lens to her role as a film critic and aspiring screenwriter. This blend of experience makes her a dynamic and insightful member of the ImoIFF jury, where she’ll undoubtedly inspire festival participants.
When she isn’t immersed in films, Neli enjoys reading, cooking, rollerskating, and exploring the vibrant streets of Manhattan.
